A few weeks ago we did Lyzelle’s maternity session at the beautiful Noordhoek Common.  There were still a few weeks to go before her little man was scheduled to make his appearance and so we agreed to stay in touch and once he had arrived we would confirm the date for his newborn session.  No rush, or so we thought.  But this little guy had other plans and just two weeks after our session he made his appearance into the world.

And so on a chilly June morning I made my way to Lyzelle’s house for our styled newborn session and to meet baby Mikei (what a gorgeous name, right?) at just 10 days old.  I know that 10 days might sound very soon to be doing photos with your new baby.  You’ve probably only been home for a couple of days and are still adjusting to life with this little person.  But if we want to capture those gorgeous curled up, sleepy poses then the 10 day mark is kind of the limit.  In the first week or so your baby will still want to be curled up the way they were in your womb, but after 10 days they’ll start to straighten them out as they become more awake to the world.  This makes it more tricky to wrap them in those curled up poses.

There was definitely a sense of de ja vu as I arrived at Earl and Lyzelle’s house because just four years ago I was here to photograph Gianna’s newborn session.  But this time she was the big sister who couldn’t wait to show me her new brother.  How very loved this little boy is already.  And he was such a star, sleeping or just being peacefully awake while we captured his images.  Thank you, Lyzelle and Earl, for trusting me once again to take these photos of your boy.
