Tamarah booked her maternity session with me after seeing some of the work I had done with these amazing Mommy Bloggers; Pregnant in Cape Town & Ever After, 3 Kids 2 Dogs and 1 Old House and The Milk Memoirs. If you want to read about the nitty gritty of parenting in the real world with no sugar coating (and some great giveaways) then do yourself a favour and head on over to these blogs. You can thank me later 🙂
So, back to Tamarah’s maternity session. We planned it a few weeks ago and decided on a beautiful forest venue near to Kirstenbosch gardens in Cape Town. I kept an eye on the weather all week and it was looking good, until a few days before our shoot I saw that the good ol’ southeaster was starting to pick up. Wishful thinking had me believing that it would die down before the weekend. But no. The morning of our shoot arrived and brought with it a howling gale. Not just a little breeze, but a just-about-blow-the-trees-out-of-the-ground gale. I called Tamarah to let her know that our Cape Town location probably wasn’t going to work in the wind. Thankfully, her hubby Hendri knew of another forest location in Stellenbosch and so I set off to meet them. Driving along the N2 my car was literally being buffeted along the highway. And then, incredibly, as I entered Stellies and made my way to the location the wind died down completely. There wasn’t even a breeze! I couldn’t believe it. And the location they had chosen was an absolutely beautiful forest surrounded by the magnificent Stellenbosch mountains.
I had such fun with this lovely family. It was so precious capturing the interactions between them as their little girl went adventuring in the forest and would bring back little treasures for her mom and dad; a feather, a rock, a flower or a little bug. And the sunset through the trees cast the most beautiful shadows and light. I was in photographer’s heaven 🙂
